*Chrism Mass – Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m., Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

One of the Church’s most joyous celebrations in the liturgical year is the popularly called “Chrism Mass.” At this Mass, the bishop of the diocese blesses all the Sacred Oils which will be used throughout the year in the celebration of the sacraments.

The priests renew their commitment to priestly service. The Oil of the Sick is blessed to uplift the infirm. The Oil of Catechumens is blessed to strengthen those preparing for baptism.

Holy Chrism is consecrated for use in the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and holy orders, and in other rites such as the blessing of the altars and churches.

This year, the Chrism Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16. All the priests and people of the Diocese of Memphis are invited to participate in this festive liturgy.
